A week in and we are getting ready for our first test. I think the kids are sick of me saying it, but PreCalc is the big leagues! As a college-prep class, SHS's mathematical equivalent to an AP class, we expect more of students in order to better prepare them for the future. To kick things off, we have been working through a review unit of Algebra 1/Algebra 2 material. While most are knocking the summer rust off their mental gears, some are really struggling. A handful have even stepped back down to retake Algebra 2, which is a great decision in those cases. We need to totally and definitively understand the core classes to succeed in the AP/college prep classes. It takes guts to say, "I need more practice," so kudos to those handful of kids. For everyone else, we are getting used to the routine and pace of the class, ready to take on the rest of the semester.
Also, a bit of forewarning, I am being kidnapped by pirates 9/17 - 9/25, to join a pile of screaming kids on a floating petri dish (cruise). I will be unavailable for student assistance during this time and students will be utilizing video lessons to work through the second half of chapter one. I truly regret this and have been complaining for months about it, but my wife has repeatedly told me to shut up and enjoy it. She's right 99% of the time (shhhhh... I never admitted that), so a-sailing I will go. I apologize to students for being unavailable and hope everyone can grit their way through it.
Good luck to everyone on the upcoming test and the rest of the semester. I know you can do it!
