Welcome to PreCalc
Here you will find everything you need for PreCalc. Syllabus, assignments, announcements, calendar, resources... the works. I have put a lot of effort into making sure you will always have the resources and opportunities you need to be successful in secondary mathematics. Please take advantage of these and feel free to contact me with any questions or requests.
In PreCalc, we expand on topics from Algebra II and cover new material, primarily matrices, conic sections, and sequences. This is a college prep course, so be prepared for the increase responsibility and rigor. It is required that students have a minimum of a "C-" in Algebra II to enter PreCalc. Anything less than a B will mean an uphill battle. However, you will experience a class where you are in charge of how much you learn. Loads of resources, Spartan Time, and my regular before/after-school hours provide you with plenty of opportunity to improve your understanding. I am also available almost 24 hours a day (as long as I'm conscious) via Remind.
To offset the accountability and rigor, I try to keep the classroom as relaxed as possible. Couch, fridge, microwave... yours. We have geek posters galore, Brownie Points, the Quote Book, and those conversational tangents that remind me it's a good thing I don't teach in the elementary. As one student said. "You're the only teacher who has a soul." Math should be fun, so we do our best to keep it that way!
And as always, I am very flexible when students/parents simply talk to me. Family circumstances troubling you, just plain having a bad day, or I really weird you out? Just be honest with me and I'll do whatever I can to help you meet your goals in class.
Remind is a safe, secure app that allows teachers, students, and parents to communicate online or via mobile devices. You can receive daily assignments, updates, notices, chat one-on-one or in groups, and the best part... everyone's phone number stays private. Just text the code for your class to 81010, reply with your name when asked, and you're set! If you want to download the app, it's free and has greater utility, allowing seamless MMS like any other message app (Kik, Line, etc.)

Please come prepared to class with the following. If you have trouble obtaining any materials for financial reasons, you can talk to me privately to make arrangements.
- Pencils and large erasers
(NEVER do math in pen!)
- Graph paper
(perforated/loose leaf- no elephant snot)
- Write-view/graphing calculator
(older model TI- 83 graphing calculators are available for checkout and as emulators on student laptops, but if purchasing a new one, I recommend TI-36X Pro scientific, about $20, and TI- 84CE graphing, about $90 in Aug/Sept, but $130 the rest of the year)
- Remind and Google Drive apps
(If you have one of those nights where you need more than text, download Join.Me as well)
- Wabbit TI-84 Emulator
Open-source emulator for Android smartphones (if you have an iPhone, you already have problems)
- 3-ring binder or expanding file folder
